Just as a plurality have finally realized the war in Iraq is pointless, most people are beginning to acknowledge that Family Guy is shit. Last night’s South Park proved how easy and lazy MacFarlane’s brand of comedy is.

MacFarlane is, for lack of a better word, a cock; A complete, massive cock. Some episodes of Family Guy just make me want to punch a baby! Of course I never would, but you get the point. Seasons 1-3 were not bad, but Jesus… the last few years have been terrible. All the unfunny rip-offs of the Simpsons are uncalled for. Congratulations, Seth; You have taken funny situations from the Simpsons and made them unfunny.

People please!! Everyone always gets so worked up, bashing family guy because of it’s dumb humor and lack of creative writing and innovation, but I think you all are missing the point. The Family guy creators never claimed to be making ground breaking comedy here. Obviously the focus in this series is not brilliant writing. These guys just want to make people laugh, and from the popularity they’ve achieved, I’d say they are doing a good job. I am a fan of the show and a fan of Seth Macfarlane as well. Does that automatically make me unintelligent and simple minded? No…and if you ever see Seth Macfarlane in an interview, you will see that he is actually a very bright guy with a lot of insight.
Basically my stance is that not every tv series has to convey some profound meaning or message to the audience, sometimes it’s nice just to have a laugh, and when dealing with a comedy show, what’s more important than that?
I think at the end of the day people appreciate Family Guy for it’s simplicity, and for many it adds a little bright spot to otherwise mundane lives. You gotta love Seth for that!

I’d agree that Seth Macfarlane is douche bag, partly for his politics, and partly for his references to people, shows, and movies (among other things). He says it was horrifying to hear a family member of his say he wished there was a cure for his cousin’s homosexuality, thats not horrifying, my aunt has said that about her own son, it just means she wants him to have a normal life. As for his gags, there was a cutaway to Benjamin Disreali, saying you don’t even know who I am, of course we know who he is, everyone knows Cream’s album Disreali Gears, and alot of people know him from that reference, also he congratulates himself in one episode when the newscaster says “Karen Black, what an obscure reference”. Thank you, I’m sorry for the long sentences and such, but I am a very angry person and I need to let out some steam.

I would just like to say that I am the farthest thing from simple minded, and I love family guy. I still can’t quite understand why people hate Seth Macfarlane. Sure he’s rich, but he worked hard to get where he is. If you knew anything about him, you would be aware of this. What’s wrong with the humor on family guy? It may not be “cutting edge” but I sure find it funny. The thing is, the writers aren’t trying to create some amazing new kind of comedy. They’re just trying to make people laugh with silly references that most people can relate to. I think the characters that Macfarlane has created are very original and particularly hilarious. Of course, you can’t expect everyone to like the same thing. This argument is similar to that of music. Many people may like one kind of music, while others bash it endlessly. Sice when has media ever been an equal platform? I do see how It would be nice if major shows like family guy would try to stay away from topics like religion and gay rights yet I think that if I were seth I would do the same. I am kind of sick and tired of people hating “Family Guy” because of Seth Mcfarlane. To be honest, I hate him with every inch of my body. I think he is a pompous, psuedo-intellectual, and ignorant piece of trash. What’s more, he tries to force feed his liberal beliefs to the American public. With that said, I love “Family Guy”… it is just a funny show, anyone who thinks otherwise is just drab if you ask me. So the comedy may not be intellectual, so what? I love “Arrested Development” as well, I enjoy its dry humor… but it isn’t the ONLY type of comedy I enjoy. I think Seth McFarlane stands for just about everything I hate, even his voice is unbearably pompous. But Seth McFarlane doesn’t even write the show anymore, each show pretty much has a different writer. I am rambling a bit here, but the point is, don’t hate “Top Gun” because Tom Cruise is a nut case….just hate Tom Cruise.
Oh…and one more tidbit; since everyone seems to be putting in their opinion of “American Dad”, I have to say that it is a completely tired, worthless, and unoriginal copy of “Family Guy”. I never once thought it was funny.

Seth MacFarlane is a mindless dick. First, his show is nothing more than one long chain of movie references, events stretched into uncomfortably long durations, and random musical numbers. Two, I am a pretty liberal guy but I respect that people have different opinions than me but between the McCain/Palin button on a Nazi uniform and the Bush/Cheney bumper sticker on a Star Destroyer you are just getting irritating. Three, the show itself is gutless. People say its edgy but its really not. They make jokes that won’t actually offend its fan base but rather would offend the kinds of people who don’t watch it. Prudes for example. Any genuinely edgy piece of comedy is going to try to offend but how is a gay joke going to offend a college student; it isn’t. Four, the animation is shit. Five, do try not to put an obvious sock puppet to represent all your political and philosophical views in your show allowing you to go on several minute long rants about how (Christians, conservatives, republicans, etc.) are pure evil and utterly stupid. Six, everything in that show, and I mean EVERYTHING is lifted from some other better show. It is a Frankenstein’s monster that is assembled from random pieces of other shows into an amalgamation of failure. Only Seth MacFarlane could take what people like about other shows, merge it together, and create the biggest pile of garbage ever. That is all.

I’m starting to think Macfarlane is narcissistic in the extreme. He’s got his hand in just about every facet of the entertainment medium.

The problem I find with McFarlene and the creators of South Park is the creeping suspicion that they are promoted and kept around because they are helping to further corrupt society. At least King of the Hill had some universal morality.

Family Guy is a show which I will no longer watch because it is tedious, predictable, and essentially a form of pornography. Incest, rape, pedophilia, the abuse of women, bestiality, ridicule of the father figure, and violence are all high comedy for seth and friends. South Park is no better, and both try to clothe themselves in the false morality of the left, while making jokes out of subjects which cause people real pain in their lives. I am sure it is not funny to many people affected by these issues.

Additionally these shows are on in prime time when children are watching, and make continuous pornographic references throughout the show. It just shows how thoroughly corrupt we are as a nation, I am not even a Christian, and it is beyond the pale. There used to be a time when comedy was clean and funny, without having to stoop to toilet humor.

Whoever said there are no sacred cows in comedy, never had any love for anything beyond themselves. There used to be a time when a great deal of love and time was put into writing comedy, to not offend, but to entertain. This is what makes mcfarlane a hack. He is derivative, and his gags are smut, scatological toilet humor and violence.

I personally feel the only possible “conspiracy” behind Family Guy (and other fox shows, such as The Simpsons”) is that in order to maintain their position on TV, when they are so obviously stale, is that they are beginning to embrace – ever so subtly – a more right-wing agenda, in – say – depictions of gays as sissyboys who stand around flapping their hands, or all middle-eastern (scratch that, “brown”) people are terrorist sympathisers, or embrace fundamentalist muslim beliefs. E.g. a sikh in disneyworld being distracted by “a woman learning”.

Further left-wing shows, or rather, less conforming to Murdoch’s worldview, such as futurama, king of the hill (although that was pretty stale by the time it ended) or early-on family guy were all canned. Also note how often the Simpsons took the piss outta Dubya (practically zero), and how often Clinton was satirised, and you’ll see my point.

Arrested Development is on a different level than Family Guy. Two different types of comedy. Seth isn’t a d-bag; he’s genius.

Family Guy was enjoyable for seasons 1-3. Ever since it came back it has degenerated into too many movie references and Democrat talking points. Bring back Arrested Development, King of the Hill & Greg the Bunny. Those shows had actual writing, punchlines, and a freaking story. I’ve yet to see anyone in these comments do so and I beleive it is because they can’t. There’s nothing original about Family Guy — one would argue that its cutaways are…but really, Simpsons have already done it multiple times (although theirs make sense and are related to the episode’s story). Like when Homer is at the hospital and Lenny says they (at the nuclear plant) took a long time trying to find a replacement for him. A cutaway shows he was replaced by a brick hanging from a lever.

I’m a 68 year old female. Love Family Guy most of the time. I think they should be more politically balanced. I’m not religious nor conservative but they’re not an equal opportunity employer. I love satire but when you’re pushing propaganda down my throught all the time through lois and Brian it gets annoying with her cloying voice and brians superior attitude. Love the scatological humor in many ways FG is both low brow and high brow humor. We can watch the same episodes several time over and laugh each time. I’m a fan of Family Guy, and I think a few episodes of American Dad are pretty decent. Unfortunately though, Seth’s material has been going downhill. I’m not here to hate on him for his work though, nor his money. It’s his character that he’s displayed to me in Comedy Central Roasts that has led me to type “Seth Macfarlane is a douche” on google and end up here. The man seems to have abandoned God and replaced Him with nothing but pure hatred. Now, I’m not really religious, but I can tell by Seth’s spite for those who are that he definitely was at one point. I was watching The Charlie Sheen Roast and I just want to say that, with his fake voice (seriously the guy sounds like a sportscaster wtf is that all about?), fake tan, and fake teeth, Mr. Mcfarlane is more of a cartoon than Peter Griffin with the only real thing left of him being pure hatred and fear. I have always considered myself very middle of the road, politically. But after watching Faily Guy (a show I used to love back in seasons 1-2) I am actually becoming more conservative.
I almost wish homosexuals would dissapear into thin air and the cannibis plant would go extinct, just so I didn’t have to hear about them anymore. And while I have absolutely NO love for Bush, I have actually become more sympathetic to him (and his administration) after the constant “Bush is evil”.
