Where In the Afterlife Is Ken Lay’s Soul?

Ken Lay's Soul
click for comic

Upon learning of Ken Lay’s death, I wanted to do a large single panel cartoon titled “All Assholes Go to Heaven.” It would’ve been a larger version of this comic’s final panel and featured many dead politicians and celebrities I’m not very fond of. For those of you who can’t decipher my mediocre illustration, the three people greeting Lay in Asshole Heaven are Strom Thurmond, Richard Nixon, and Ronald Reagan.

I’m not clear on the reasons, but I was asked to obscure Reagan’s face by Campus Progress. And since I will do anything for money, I obliged. However, I am still confident that the man would be in Asshole Heaven if such a place existed.

I apologize for getting all high falutin’ and using the word corporeal. Who do I think I am?

And a gentle reminder:
I encourage all of you to buy assorted BFW goods. Otherwise I may have to run a bunch of Wayne Dyer specials to solicit money from sad and lonely old people.

Wow… I would also like to hear their reasons for this. What the hell, Campus Progress?

    Otherwise, out-freakin’-standing cartoon, Brian…

  2. Brian Says:

Thanks Ben. My guess is it has something to do with Ron Reagan Jr., or some Iran-Contra flunky who’s since come out against Dubya. Or maybe they just received a large cache of Reagan tribute coins and don’t want them to be devalued.

  3. Charles Brubaker Says:

Well, while Nixon was a lying bastard, at least he did good with China ;)

Personally, I would have included Dick Cheney in Nixon’s place. In my mind, he’s dead and the vice president in our office is actually a zombie.

  4. Charles Brubaker Says:

P.S., no fair with Ron Reagan Jr.! That guy is a liberal! (along with Ronnie’s daughter, who she estranged with the Reagan family)

  5. Matt Bors Says:

This cartoon is great! really great.

And I have to say that their request is the stupidest fucking thing I’ve ever heard. It can’t be the fact that he was a President, since Nixon is there too.

When places censor faces or bleep out cuss words, what exactly do they think they are doing? It only draws attention to the thing they don’t want people to see.

Are they “protecting” us from a doodle if Ronald in heaven? I must say, addhole heaven is certainly better than asshole hell. a Very unprogressive of them.

  6. Matt Bors Says:

    I can’t spell well.

  7. Brian Says:

I wasn’t knocking Ron Reagan Jr. I just assumed that since he’s a liberal, he might be involved with the Center for American Progress. However, I will pick on liberals whenever I want. If “smash-the-state” granola heads ever get into a position of relevance, I’ve got plenty of material for them.

Nixon was an asshole. Prior to this administration, he was the personification of abuse of power. Also, opening trade with China without making significant human rights demands was pretty shitty.

I agree with Matt about censorship, but I don’t think of my work as high art. As I told a friend of mine yesterday, I’d gladly put FDR’s face on Ken Lay’s body if it meant I’d get a paycheck.

  8. Matt Bors Says:

Really, any President could be there. Replace it with Clinton and see if they let it fly. He certainly did things that made him an asshole.

  9. Charles Brubaker Says:

Ugh…I still can’t believe he agreed to the NAFTA thing.

Now that I think about it…when was the last time we had a president that WASN’T an asshole at all?

  10. Brian Says:

Clinton’s still alive. I originally wanted to have Jesse Helms instead of Reagan, but it turns out that fucker’s still clinging to life.

  11. Matt Bors Says:

oh yea. Clinton’s alive. ok, do MLK. didn’t he cheat on his wife?

  12. Evil_Ed Says:

How incredibly lame. Of Campus Progress, that is. Besides, Reagan would be lucky to wind up in any kind of heaven. We figured on him arriving somewhere else.
