Prime Time is Garbage Time

I love television. That’s why the shitty parts hurt me in my soul. It hurts so much, I’m going to eat some Leno-approved Doritos.

Correcting a Tremendous Oversight

I was introduced to the Farting Preacher several months ago, but I was away from my computer and never got around to posting him here, where he belongs.

Perhaps this error is why I’ve had such bad luck this winter.

Jindal/Palin 2012!

Or the other way around. I don’t care. We cartoonists need these goofballs to remain in the spotlight. Toss in a Huckabee and you got yourself a stew! A stew of hilarious morons.

Oh! I almost forgot. The real reason for this post is to alert you that the Arrested Development movie is a go!

If you don’t know how those two paragraphs are related, then you must be hopped up on Forget-Me-Nows.

Conan’s Last Late Night

I was 14 when Late Night with Conan O’Brien with debuted. Now it’s over and I’m just six months away from 30. I loved it for the entire run. It probably did more to shape my sense of humor than anything else, especially considering all the great comedy writers and comedians who started there: Robert Smigel, Louis CK, Dino Stamatopoulos, Mike Sweeney, Brian McCann, Jon Glaser, Brian Stack, Andy Blitz, and many more that I can’t remember at 2 in the morning.

When I started “Big Fat Whale” in 2001, I remember telling a friend that I wanted it to be in the same tone as Conan’s Late Night comedy bits, particularly the sketches and desk pieces. The strip became more political, thanks to that shithead Bush, but I hope it retained plenty of Late Night‘s goofy, absurd spirit.

This post is too serious. Conan’s not dead. He’s just gone for 3 months. Norm MacDonald’s send-off was the best:

Republican First Aid

I confess to not reading the stimulus bill, or paying much attention to the debate and negotiations that shaped it. That shit is boring. It’s also important, but oh so boring.

Erudite Update

PBS Ferret

Since this blog stopped updating, and because it it requires spectacularly little effort, I’ve decided to swallow my pride and give the people what they want. At occasional intervals, I will add pictures to the Erudite Ferret page.

I’ll also post the new ones to my blog so you don’t have to keep checking that page for new stupidity.

Sadly, some lame-o took advantage of my laziness and registered all the relevant domains.

Movie Madness is Movie Sadness

Unfortunately, No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood can’t be released every year, so I’m not that interested in the outcome of this year’s Oscar’s. But that’s not stopping me from flippantly critiquing the nominees.

Best Picture
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button – Yawn! Once again, the salty sea captain stole the show. This was first proven by the cinematic masterpiece, Cabin Boy.

Frost/Nixon – It was entertaining while I was watching it. I haven’t thought about it since.

Milk – Biopics should be their own, lesser category.

The Reader – Didn’t see it, and I’m guessing neither did you.

Slumdog Millionaire – This is my pick. I’ll never watch it again, but it was a fun poopy ride.

The two things we will learn from the 2009 Oscars is that Wall-E was robbed and Heath Ledger is still dead.

Lastly, Synecdoche, NY should’ve gotten a screenplay nod.

Crap-Ass Valentines

The annual tradition continues. Here’s 2008‘s and 2007‘s. So what if it’s made up by the flower and chocolate lobby? Valentine’s Day allows me to think up one less original premise every year.

In addition to Valentine’s day, it’s also Presidents’ Day weekend. Here’s how I’m celebrating.

It’s Lincoln’s Birthday!

Everyone’s celebrating Darwin’s, but today is also Lincoln’s birthday. We usually celebrate his and Washington’s birthdays on Presidents’ Day by purchasing cars and mattresses. But since the economy is in the shitter, I’ve decided to celebrate in another way:

Lookin' Like Lincoln

I mentioned this plan to BFW reader Mike many months ago, and he went all out:

Mike's Lincoln

He even went to work like this, AND he’s in the UK, where Lincoln is about as relevant as Scooby Doo.

If you’d like to join the fun this Presidents’ Day weekend, send me your photos our post them to the Lookin’ Like Lincoln group on Flickr. I’ll be posting the best ones here below a jump.

Clarifying Some Confusion

Yesterday the Erudite Ferret page was bouncing across the intarwebs again, but this time no one knew it was from a cartoon about shitty ideas for the internet.

So who’s stupid now, random people on a website?
